My additions to the Cybertraps Files this week span four continents and run the full spectrum of educator misconduct. A UK teacher was caught searching for pornography on school computers more than a hundred times. A Georgia teacher stands accused of sexual contact with six students while maintaining an OnlyFans account — and was allegedly blackmailed for better grades by at least one of them. Cases from New Zealand, Australia, Illinois, New York, Texas, and Canada round out the typically grim news harvest, with entries for grooming charges, child sexual abuse materials, and explicit messaging with minors across multiple platforms.

The big policy story this week is the UK's announced ban on social media for users under 16 — a topic I'll be covering in depth later this week. Reactions have ranged from industry pushback to parental skepticism that the "genie is already out of the bottle," with a Guardian op-ed urging caution about unintended consequences.

On the AI front, Norway moved to near-prohibit AI use in elementary schools, while a New York Times piece examines how student cheating has become nearly impossible to detect. Rounding out the week: multiple reports on school districts and parents pushing back on student screen time and device use, and a cross-national survey finding that children from Norway to Wisconsin increasingly aspire to become social media influencers.
