New on the Cybertraps Newsletter
America's latest obsession – the World Cup – drew to a close at the New York/New Jersey Stadium (better known as "The Meadowlands"). ¡Felicidades, España! And while I wasn't looking, my beloved Red Sox have managed to put together a 14-game winning streak (so far), the team's longest in nearly 80 years. Sports is a welcome antidote to much of what else is happening in the world, including the fact that my wife and I are in the process of packing up our apartment this week. I'll be a bit nomadic over the coming weeks, but I'll post when I'm able.

14 July 2026: Cybertraps Weekly Summary – July 14, 2026
From the Cybertraps Files
Quis custodiet? Judging by this week's roster, not enough of anybody. The offenses covered this week range from institutions labeling the inexcusable "accidental," to a school resource officer whose on-duty supervision extended well past her actual assignment, to an old crime running on a new AI engine. Also on the docket: a fired teacher suing to get her job back over a Facebook comment, a reminder that "conduct" and "speech" don't always mean the same thing to a district's HR office.

Articles Worth Reading
This week's links converge, almost too neatly, on a single contradiction: districts racing toward AI-taught and teacher-free classrooms in the same stretch that the data on screens-over-textbooks keeps getting worse. Also in the mix: a new entry in the ongoing debate over what belongs in a classroom and what doesn't, a lawsuit revisiting last year's Kirk-post firings, and the perennial question of how much of a child's face belongs on a school's social feed.
