With the help of two great guys from Intense Movers in Brooklyn, we successfully emptied our apartment last Saturday and moved on to our next adventure. Where we'll land is still up in the air, although we should have some information on that in the next two to three weeks.
When I had time to finally do some writing, I focused on a fascinating story out of upstate New York: the Salamanca School District dropped nearly $60,000 on a humanoid AI-powered robot that they planned to deploy in 11th and 12th grade AI, robotics, and coding classes. But reaction in the community was largely unenthusiastic, particularly when people learned about "her" corporate relatives. The project is on pause right now, but the controversy offers useful lessons for district leaders.

This week's outlier: a Nashville teacher accused of running student photos through AI to generate "teddy bear style" images and inappropriate dance videos, which suggests the next wave of misconduct won't need a platform at all, just a prompt. Everything else below is depressingly familiar — Snapchat, Instagram, Kik — proof that the tools change faster than the behavior does.
Cyberharassment
Bangladesh – 27 July 2026: The headteacher of Pitaitikor Government Primary School in Fenchuganj posted "a short video of herself walking on the school premises, set to the song Sraboner Meghgulu by Different Touch vocalist Mezba." Her video was reshared on Facebook by a Bangladeshi expat, resulting in widespread "cyberbullying and public humiliation."

Electronic Sexual Assault
US_Massachusetts – 27 July 2026: A tip from Google to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children of a possible CSAM in a user's Google Drive account led to the arrest of a Belmont Middle School teacher. He is currently facing two charges of possession of CSAM. Additional images were found during a subsequent search of his cellphone.

Free Speech
US_District of Columbia – 27 July 2026: In November 2016, a DC teacher showed up at his assigned school and recorded a 24-minute video on Facebook Live. He profanely attacked the school's leadership and alleged that the principal had covered up a rape at the school. He eventually brought suit alleging violations of due process and the First Amendment. The trial court rejected both claims. Although he broadcast on Facebook Live, the court found that he was speaking as a teacher and primarily addressing his employers, not the public.

US_Virginia – 28 July 2026: A former teacher with Chesterfield County Public Schools has filed a lawsuit against the district seeking more than $13 million in lost wages and other damages. She claims that she was unlawfully fired for a Facebook post she wrote shortly after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was killed. The post only remained online for about three hours, but screenshots of it were circulated by conservative politicians and right-wing social media groups, including "Libs of TikTok." She was fired less than two weeks later. So far, the district has not responded to the suit.

Invasion of Student Privacy
Canada – 23 July 2026: A teacher in British Columbia lost his license after sending a series of crude Instagram DMs to a student, including one that read "Your shower story turned me on a lot. I was looking at it today." The teacher claimed that he was drunk when he sent the messages but admitted that intoxication was not an excuse.

England – 29 July 2026: A former teacher at the Friern Barnet School in north London has been dismissed from the teaching profession for sending a series of love notes to a female student on Instagram. "At the beginning of July last year I developed a crush on you," he wrote. "By the end of the school year I have fallen in love with you. The world became meaningless to me without you, and I couldn’t stop thinking about you. It wasn’t the normal type of love, but the Edward Cullen type of love." For those not up to speed on young adult fiction, Cullen was the brooding anti-hero in the wildly successful Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer.

US_Tennessee – 29 July 2026: A teacher at Nashville Big Picture High School was fired after allegations by students that he took photos and videos of them and used the images to create AI-generated content. According to his termination letter, "some of the AI-generated videos showed students dancing in ways they considered inappropriate, while other altered images portrayed students in fabricated personal or family situations. Another student reported the teacher created cartoon or “teddy bear style” versions of students’ photos."

Sexual Assault
US_Nebraska – 22 July 2026: A band teacher at Centennial Public Schools in York has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a student. The victim's mother discovered that the teacher and her daughter had been communicating on Snapchat. The student attempted to cut off communication, but the teacher continued to pursue her.

US_Wyoming – 28 July 2026: A former Twin Spruce Junior High School teacher is facing 18 counts involving sexual abuse of minors. Prosecutors allege that he used Snapchat and TikTok to message students and to request that they send nude photos to him. He also is charged with showing sexually explicit videos to a 9-year-old.
